Summer Sign Language Classes
Hello!
I hope you all have been enjoying your summer as much as I have! :) It is time now for us to start some sign language classes! I know that many of you have been enthusiastic and studying using the many web sites available for learning ASL. There is so much to learn in sign language! SMILE. It does help when you get feedback and that is what I am here for.
There have been some changes in my schedule. I have been accepted to a Masters program at Northeastern University for Education with a focus on Interpreting Education. Also I will be working a few hours here and there at Sorenson in Greensboro. All the things that I learn will be taught to all of you....you never stop learning. :)~
Right now I think individual classes would work out the best for my schedule and I hope that works well for you too. It would be best to set them up week by week since my schedule changes on a weekly basis. You can e-mail me when you have time at slwheeler81@gmail.com.
Also I have a new idea of using the computer to put out assignments and trying to get some feedback from that. We can use a web cam and you can post videos of your signing on you tube.com. There is a way to set your account to private so only the people you invite can see it for your own protection and privacy. Then I can send out assignments and get the video's back on your signing practices that week. What do you think? Do you have the equipment for that? Please give me some feedback on that too through e-mail or in a comment on this blog. I would appreciate that.
Next year we might try to do a ASL Camp for a week in July 2009 so please keep that in mind. My goal is to have 5 group leaders who are either Deaf or Interpreters teach the camp so it should be a week of intensive but FUN learning. Right now the biggest concern is the location so if you have any ideas we are open to that as well. :)
Have a wonderful day and I look forward to practicing sign language with you soon. Feel free to pass this site on to your friends. The more the better!
Warmly,
Sarah W .

BABY SIGNS
I have just had a great time teaching a woman and her 12 year old son sign language!! It's amazing what a great vocabulary that little ones have. It just takes practice and patience but this little guy knew signs for baby, more, milk, sleep, potty, and recognized many more. It was thrilling to see the mother really enthusiastic about learning new signs for herself and her baby. It is a great way to communicate with a baby and you really can have a lot of fun with your facial expressions and get in to every sign. The kids love that!
I have to brag on my son for a little bit...he has learned some new signs. He can sign girl and boy now! Now we just need to get him to understand the difference between the two. :)
